Tembo’s wife laid to rest

Goodal_funeralThe funeral of wife of retired politician John Tembo in Dedza today turned into a unifying factor for politicians.

Ruth, wife of 45 years of former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president was mourned by Malawians from all walks of life and across the political divide.

Malawi President Peter Mutharika led the people who paid their last respects to Tembo’s wife who included former president Bakili Muluzi, Vice-President Saulosi Chilima and former vice-president Justin Malewezi and Khumbo Kachali.

“She was a remarkable person. She was an adviser to the family, a wedding planner and comforter,” said family representative Professor Zimani Kadzamira.

MCP president Lazarus Chakwera said a dark cloud has descended on the party following the death of Ruth.

“She contributed more to the party that built foundations for the country’s development,” he said.

Chakwera thanked political parties for showing unity.

Speaking on behalf of President Mutharika, Chilima said people have been united in mourning Tembo’s wife because she was humble and peace-loving.

“The President and the whole government are mourning a woman who preached peace and contributed a lot to Malawi Congress Party,” he said.
